To celebrate the three-day weekend and with a mind to do something new, Ben and I got dressed up and headed north to Seattle for the day today. We went to visit Melrose Market, a food hall that was recently featured in Bon Appetit. I read about organic sandwiches and wine bars and was sold. We're only forty minutes from Seattle, but we rarely visit. It's a shame we don't go more often, but the traffic is atrocious, the drive long, and the parking expensive.
Once parked and at the market, though, I was in heaven. It was gorgeous, lit by little globe lights suspended from the ceiling and the shops were set up like rustic porches and kitchens. One shop, above the rest sold the tiny bow ring I'm wearing above and sweet little home-decor/kitchen items like dish towels and mason jar candles. We picked up half-sandwiches from Homegrown, a sustainable sandwich shop, and brought our food into Bar Ferd'nand where I ordered a dry, rose brut and enjoyed it with my turkey, avocado, bacon sandwich. We poked around some vintage shops afterward, snapped the photos above, and then headed to a bar where we drank some IPA on nitro and called it a day. All in all, a good day in the big city doing what I love to do - eat good food, drink good wine, and spend time with good friends. If you're a Seattle-ite or ever visit the area, I'd highly suggest visiting the market at the bottom of Capitol Hill!
