The other day at work, we threw an open house for our clients and candidates and I spent the majority of the day in heels. Though I'd brought a pair of flats with me, they got buried under office chairs and desks and computer equipment and I was unable to grab them when the day started to drag on. From 8:30 a.m. to 9 at night (without any time spent sitting), I was in heels. In miserable heels. Trapped between clients and candidates and colleagues and work friends and standing all day long, moving said desks and chairs and computer equipment, my feet developed insane blisters. By the time I got home, the underside of my big toe was covered in blisters. My ankles hurt. My feet felt warped. My calves, agitated. I had to wear some kind of hideous old flat to work the next day and could hardly walk up my stairs that night without holding onto the balcony with a death grip. Some days, it doesn't feel worth it to have beautiful heels on (they were beautiful heels). And those darn toe blisters would not go away for weeks. Do you know how hard it is to walk with a blister on the sole of your foot? I think I sported flats at work for a week, contrary to my normal heels, heels, heels modus operandi.
And then Rockport sent me these pointed toe total motion pumps. And I put them on and they felt like I was walking on air. Powered by a cloud. Or a dream. Sporting little pillows on my feet. And that 8:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. day seemed like it would have been all rainbows and starry skies in these heels. So these have replaced my under-desk-heels. They live at work now. In their dark and lovely spot beneath my desk. And so when I walk in (in ill-fitting, sometimes soggy-from-the-rain flats) I slide these on and my feet go to bed in them, tucked down in their pillow-y soles. I don't have to sacrifice an over 2" heel minimum, an all-black, pointy-toed pump, a real-leather heel, or any style for these ultra-comfy heels.
In summary - these have become my primary heels. Ben's always nagging me about my feet undergoing daily torture and me needing to prioritize my future foot health (never, I usually say!). But those toe blisters really wreaked havoc on my life and when it becomes difficult to shuffle about your 700 square foot apartment on any given day, I think its time to abandon heels that slice open your feet and serve them up charred at the end of the day. I'd rather feel powerful, beautiful and comfortable. Empowered rather than un-powered.
