Sunshine Before the Storm

Dress: c/o Our World Boutique; Heels: Michael Kors

We took these photos this afternoon in the seconds before giant summer raindrops started to fall. It's supposed to thunder by nightfall but for now, giant drops have given the city the smell of a summer rain. You all know that cool, fresh smell that floats over everything. Mmm.

I thought it was kind of bizarre to wear the color yellow, and ruffled yellow at that, underneath an impending cloud of giant raindrops. But perhaps it was fitting. I don't think I've ever worn yellow. It just simply isn't a color that really pale, freckled, brunettes often wear. But I couldn't really resist this dress. It seemed to epitomize casual summers spent river-side. Light and floaty and floral, it also feels like a tropical vacation dress. To be paired with smooth blue seas and white sand (and probably sunburns).

And I am so in need of a real vacation, spent somewhere that's not here, for weeks. Today at work someone said the word "Mexico" and everyone just moaned a bit, dreaming of clear water and beaches. I think it may have just been the 3:30 p.m. slump where everyone is brainstorming what cocktails they're making when they get home... but a vacation sure does sound nice. Do you have summer plans? I am basically going to be house-bound except for a potential work trip (NOT remotely vacation-like) in the next few weeks. Ugh.

  4. I love this flirty little number on you! I know yellow is hard to pull off but this shade works well with your complexion! I'm dreaming of a vacation as well, except I always prefer sightseeing type of vacations rather than relaxing at a resort. We plan on taking a road trip to Quebec in August. I'm really looking forward to it.

  5. I feel the same way about Anthro. Must be careful about selecting just the right items. I also love their headbands (the rhinestoney ones) but you can drop $50 easily on just one. Ugh!

  7. First of all, you look amazing and I am obsessed with those shoes. Second of all, I totally know how you feel - I felt the same way last week, I needed to get away for a least a little bit. Luckily I convinced my fiance to do the same and we are headed out 6 hours (just Friday night - Sunday) but something is better than nothing right!?

  8. In my opinion, good vacations are the KEY to living in the north west. Sometime between the months of Oct - May, you have to take off and bask in a little sunshine. Luckily, it's been so nice lately (besides that quick little storm), I haven't even thought about leaving!

  9. I love yellow, and I love this gorgeous dress on you. So summer-y, and you look fantastic! I'm aching to go somewhere too, but there doesn't seem to be any likelihood of it happening in the near future.

  11. I hate to disagree, but that yellow floral frock looks great, even on a freckled brunette ;) And if it makes you feel any better, I'll be home bound all summer, too. Let's be miserable together…ha!?
