2015

'Someday' is a disease that will take your dreams to the grave with you.”
- Tim Ferris

On this eve of a brand new year, I'm thinking a lot about how often I say "someday." Someday, I'll ask for a raise. Someday, I'll pursue a creative career. Someday, I'll get back into writing. Someday, I'll try my hand at a novel. I can someday, all day.

But 'someday'-ing has never moved me closer to actually doing any of those things. I'm still struggling to pursue my creative hobbies while working a 9 to 5. I'm still trying so hard to get a second to write, or take photographs that aren't just for the blog. I'm still trying hard to lean in, make advancements at work. All of those somedays tied together have me in the same place I have been for years. Not much further in my career and no further on the creative side of life.

I'm not one for resolutions. If there's something in my life that needs changing, I just change it immediately. I think that using January 1st to make a laundry list of complaints and then address them can often result in broken promises to yourself and general disappointment. But this year I'm going to try something different. It's not a resolution, but an attempt to live a different principle this year. I'm going to try to cut out 'someday' from my life. I'm going to stop making excuses about not having time or money or not being good enough.

With that being said, I am tackling one of my 'someday's early this year. I'm going to attempt to take my calligraphy beyond just that of wasting reams of Ben's studying paper and start an Etsy shop. I'm hoping to get it up and running this weekend when I have daylight to photograph some of my work, but I'm so excited by the possibility of sharing this hobby with others.

What are you looking to do in 2015? Any big dreams?

  3. Congrats on your goal! I understand what you mean about being unsatisfied with the status quo/routine. But don't be too hard on yourself, it's okay to give yourself a break or pass sometimes, too. =)

Your calligraphy is beautiful and I'd love to share some of it with my readers once you set up your Etsy shop!! (Another collab shoot calls?!?!?) ;)
