Balancing Act

The dress I chose today usually makes for a pretty dressed up, corporate sort of look. The pencil skirting and the grey suit-like fabric, while form fitting and pretty, are definitely not elements you find in a casual outfit. Being that it was a Friday, I wanted to find a way to style this down a bit. Adding the chunky belt and the jacket accomplished this quite well, I think. Flat shoes are already less fancy than heels, yet the big sparkly jewels on top of these keep the look right on that cusp of classy and casual. I guess it just makes me feel prepared for anything. I can easily walk into the grocery store and not have people wonder why I'm so flashy, and yet I could also leave my jacket in the car or trade it out at home for a pretty pashmina, and be ready to hit the town with my husband.

Jean Jacket: Old Navy

  2. I like that you belted the dress below the empire waist that's already part of the dress. I've been trying to find examples of this. Nice work! Maybe I'll try it.

    1. Thank you! I tried out a couple of belts before I settled on this one. In the end I liked how big this one was. I think a smaller belt would have looked great, but would be a little dressier.

      Thank you for your comment!
