Patent Summer

I've been recovering from this unforunate flu/head cold confluence of illness and on my first day back to work after the weekend, I wasn't feeling creative or like I had enough energy to plan a great outfit. It's times like these when you need statement items like this eye-catching, traditional Zulu beaded necklace. Though my top and slacks were run-of-the-mill work attire, I was complimented all day on my necklace, as everyone was drawn to the shiny and different piece. This is another one of my favorite jewelry items from the Hillcrest Centre in South Africa. It was brought back by my boyfriend when he lived in South Africa for a few months and proceeds went to a charity working toward eliminating AIDS in a region where it is a serious problem (over 33% of the population in the area he stayed has AIDS). Boring outfit or not, it feels good to wear something unique that benefits our world.

Top: The Loft (similar); Slacks, jacket: The Limited (slacks, similar jacket); Shoes: JC Penney; Necklace: from Durban, South Africa

  3. Boring? Though it may seem simple, this outfit rocks! It's a bite of class and a pinch of sophistication! By the way, do you wear item made by Indie Designers?
