Water Lilies

Top: J. Crew; Skirt, scarf: H&M (similar scarf); Pearls: Local market; Heels: Macys

When I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, I cried when I saw Monet's Water Lilies and Georges Seurat's A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. I spent many childhood Sundays pouring through my mom's coffee table book on the impressionist painters and those paintings, on a 12" x 12"page, were beautiful and inspiring. Hanging on the wall, in their perfect, original glory, they were indescribable.

I have always loved impressionist art, and recently read an article that discussed how we wore art every day in our clothing (I suppose my bathrobe isn't art, but we certainly can wear clothing that is art). This skirt reminds me of Monet's Water Lilies, little dabs of paint on a giant canvas that merge together to form this absolutely serene view of lilies floating on a blue sea of paint. It feels lovely to wear a piece of art on your body - after all, you can look down at yourself and feel transported into a quiet art museum, full of gorgeous scenes.

  3. Aww... I totally understand you, I still feel in awe every time I have a chance to see Monet's Water Lilies! And I LOVE clothing that are inspired by art! Your skirt is definitely a good reminder of that painting, it's really beautiful! And I really like how you wore it with a simple blue top to let it shine. The scarf is also a nice detail!
