Easy Jeans

Sweater: Forever 21 (similar spendsimilar splurge); Top: Gap (similar 1, similar 2): Pants: Paige Denim; Shoes: Shoedazzle

Are you getting tired of these jeans? I'm not. And I'm never taking them off. So there. On to bigger and better things (and topics that aren't remixing).

I'm on a kinda-sorta-spending freeze and have been for the past kinda-sorta two months (minus my Steven Alan sample sale slip up - my new dip-dyed silk blouse comes tomorrow). I am trying to save money and get my finances in tip-top shape prior to quitting my job and taking a bit of a break in between that job and the next position that starts two weeks later. Plus we're moving which costs an odd amount of money (probably because I always throw away the condiments when we move and my god, spices are expensive). Plus we are increasing our rent costs. Plus we are moving to a city/state with income tax. Plus we have been going crazy with fun spending for the past two years.

We took a very liberal, pro-fun approach to the past two years. We knew Ben's medical school was fast approaching and we'd be tight on finances. We knew that once medical school was done, we'd be moving toward some for-real adulthood and savings would need to go toward a home or college education savings for children. And so we decided that we needed to enjoy ourselves for the two year break. We needed to buy new things and amass new clothes and eat out and go on trips and enjoy fancy hotels. Because it wasn't going to be a reality in the future. And that was an amazing decision, I think. We've had so much fun and my wardrobe is disgracefully overflowing. I don't regret a single purchase (well maybe that Labworks sweater I got that made me look like Big Bird...).

So it's downsize time. Time to clean the wardrobe, streamline it, make the blog profitable, cut down on spending, and eat in. I think we're going to have a lot of fun embarking on this new adventure, so different from the past few years. A toast to scrimping, saving, and remixing the wardrobe. I'm ready to welcome these pants (and the rest of this outfit) into my familiar group of friends.

AAAANNNDDD I'm jealous you don't have income tax, ugh NYS is the worst!

I love those jeans on you so it's OK if you don't take them off, they are the perfect cut. They go with anything! :)

  5. Ive also been on a spending freeze and I hate it, but at least that does give a good reason for practicing remixing! I think that shows true style, not just buying new items for a new outfit for every thing. I love this one! Those shoes are too perfect

  18. it sounds like we're in a similar boat. a few months ago i put myself on a spending freeze for the rest of the year! shopping has always been my no. 1 hobby and i realized i was just spending to spend which resulted in a lot of debt and nothing to show for it. i am on a plan now to pay off my debt by the end of the year (and de-clutter!). the plan is to spend only my monthly allowance and make more meaningful purchases when my freeze lifts next year. it's been hard but i think it will be so worth it in the long run. good luck to you!

  22. My husband and I are about to embark on a similar journey - he is quitting his job and going back to school full-time. It's going to be tight and tough, but I am so glad we were able to do all the things we did in the past few years!

  25. You look so cozy and fabulous! I'm glad the two of you were able to really live for a few years. I understand that once you're in graduate school things change drastically. Before I started I lived in Europe for four years, traveled like crazy and saw and did as much as I possibly could. I wouldn't trade that for anything in the world, even though it put me a little "behind" in the saving/401k/career department.

  30. I'm in that place right now too, only I'm trying to save and build a wardrobe. I always feel wasteful if I buy one expensive thing. Especially because it's usually a while before I go shopping again. I keep telling myself I need to buy like a grown up now. And I do it with my makeup and skincare, I just need to make the jump to clothing.
