Salmon Sunset

Dress: c/o Aeropostale (old); Sandals: Forever21 (old)

Sometimes I feel like my stress container fills up and overflows and infects everything in my life. I guess that compartmentalization only works when your compartments are not full to the brim. This weekend has been one of those much needed down-time weekends to empty out my stress compartments so that I don't dissolve into an anxious pile of worry next week.

I don't really have that much going on, but when you add up one million little annoyances and stressors, it starts to feel like one big disaster. I was taking care of my injured cat last week while Ben was still away. I had a few big work events that I had to attend. I had to pick up Ben from the airport during rush hour traffic (a massive pet peeve/anxiety-inducing event for me). I started attending some events in anticipation of Portland Fashion Week (this Sept 30th to October 1st) that were in new places with new people. I had a messy house that looked terrible and was adding fuel to the stress fire. I'm waiting on our engagement photos so I can start creating our wedding website and send save-the-dates. I'm struggling with some wedding party issues. I'm trying to book a house for our wedding in Hawaii and the rentals won't get back to me. Ugh.

I definitely can handle each of these items on their own (baby steps), but the intersection of all of them had me wanting to go into a coma until they were all resolved. I am trying to take everything one step at a time to minimize the pile of things that've been bugging me. Next week should be calm at work. I've got a wedding to attend next weekend with Ben that I'm really looking forward to. We should be getting engagement photos back sometime next week so that I can occupy myself with some fun wedding prep. I'm starting to get used to all of these upcoming events and am actually looking forward to a bunch of them this month and in September.

Last night we just sat outside in the 90 degree heat and barbecued, a definite relaxing de-stress activity. It felt nice to get some sun, chat with Ben, and relax. Here's to more of that!

You don't seem to be the only one this summer with a full "stress compartment". Others have experienced it as well. Glad you took some time out for a bit of BBQ zen. Usually seems to do the trick.

  3. I know that overwhelming feeling very well. It's so important you took the time to de-stress. Ever since my late twenties my stress level has been going up with each year, until last summer it exploded as an anxiety attack (anyone who has ever had one know how horrible and traumatizing it can be). Things have never been the same ever since, but I've stopped worrying about things that may or may not happen in the future. I try to calm myself down when faced with those little annoyances that you've mentioned, before they get to me and ruin my mood. Occasionally my efforts fail, but I try my best.
