Too Cold

Sweater: Ugg; Top: Gap (similar); Jeans: Paige Denim; Boots: c/o Lulu*s; Scarf: old (similar)

In the winter, like some kind of hibernating furry creature, I start to build a nest, store up on liquids and fats, and prepare myself for a long winter's nap from which I'm not required to emerge from a den for a least three months. I stop wearing anything that could be confused with something structured or uncomfortable and start hoarding soft items like blankets, scarves, large cardigans, things with hoods, and very large and very pink, fuzzy socks. I'm not made for the deep cold, or sub 30 degree weather.

At work, I sit in between two old, drafty windows that let the cold air in like you wouldn't believe and rattle in the wind. So I spend most of my day with cold hands wrapped around a mug of boiling water and a down jacket on my lap as a blanket. It's sort of miserable, but apparently not miserable enough for me to invest $40 in a space heater (that turns off when it tips and meets fire code) and/or $79 in a faux fur blanket from West Elm that I'm obsessed with. The struggle of hibernating - you can't brave the cold to get more warm-weather gear.

What are your current must-haves for staying warm in cold, sedentary desk jobs? Including attire that always keeps you toasty. I've got my down jacket game on and a good collection of wool socks but I'm in need of some good scarves (perhaps I could use that West Elm blanket as a true blanket scarf) and a really nice winter hat and pair of gloves. Warmth recommendations wanted.

  1. Love this look! What you said about being "some kind of hibernating furry creature" is so funny and relatable! I live in California, so I really can't talk about cold weather, but I definitely get that whole "screw this fashion thing lets be warm" philosophy :)

  6. Love the little details of this outfit. Like the simple accessories, the plaid scarf and the gray cardy. I work in an office and my love layering my blazers over button ups. It's the right amount of layers to keep you toasty and professional. I'm really into crochet scarves. I have a few colors but the one I keep snagging is a beautiful burgundy color. (:

  10. When I'm working at home, I try to remember to put on warm socks, because whenever I forget, sometime late in the morning (now!) my toes start to lose all feeling from the cold that lives under my desk. As for fashion, I am pretty much the Queen of Comfort, 24/7/365. I do love a soft, warm scarf though.

  11. I just got a new Tru-West swim parka. Although I do not swim anymore and already had three parkas, they were all customized with swim team logos, etc. This time I got a plain black one. It's badass- a hooded, long parka, the kind you see Olympic swimmers wearing, but mine has no customization. Outer shell is water resistant nylon, kind of a thick windbreaker material, lining is Truarctic fabric, kind of like a heavy fleece. These parkas are worn by swimmers over wet clothing during competitions, etc. I think it will be a good thing to have for winter walks on the beach at the Oregon Coast.

  15. I get really into scarves in the winter time. They seem to keep my head warmer, as well as my neck. They are fun accessories to mix and match, with the same or similar shirts or jackets throughout the season. Scarves have been necessary for the bitter wind chill we've had lately!
