Creamsicle Summer

Top: Forever 21; Khakis: Gap; Shoes: Target; Necklace: Shabby Apple

My boyfriend's mom very generously gave me a Gap gift card for my birthday and I immediately went out and browsed their Fall collection. These khakis were one of my purchases. They're ridiculously comfortable, remarkably cute (I did not think cropped khakis were for my body type), and go with pretty much everything... oh, and the Gap has them in every color. I suggest you try a pair on ASAP.

In other news, lately I have been struggling with some elements of my life that are out of my control and, as a result, am working on managing the things I can control, like diet, exercise, and money management. My boyfriend and I have been on our diet for just over a week now and are totally loving the way we feel and the way we look. Healthier food, snacks like nuts and fruits instead of chips, and smaller meals have been key to helping our nutrition (I almost forgot to mention cutting out drinking on the weeknights!). As we don't belong to a gym and my boyfriend is having some really bad shoulder problems, we've been taking it easy by walking (briskly) around our neighborhood park for quality time and exercise. And to top it off, we're budgeting! We both take out the cash allowed for the week every week and don't spend a dime more. That means no more online shopping for me and no more splurge dinners, grocery store trips, or mall extravaganzas for either of us. It's hard, but it's totally worth it. We're feeling lighter on our feet, in our jeans, and like we've got our budget under control.

My final project is my attitude and I think it's the last big thing I need to get a handle on and I'm going to start working on that... well, now. If you can't change your situation, you need to either get out of the situation or change your perspective on the situation. Wish me luck on the hardest of the set and I'd love to hear your strategies, words of wisdom, and advice.

  5. Woman, I hear you. I've had some major academic-related setbacks this past year, and my attitude has gone to crap. The little series of disappointments started to avalanche until I woke up one morning and realized the reason I went back had been totally lost. I'll partner with you in your attitude makeover, because I desperately need one! But on to happier things - that top is adorable, and I love the blue accent! We also started eating Paleo about a month ago, and while it's been hard, I'm loving cutting out all the processed food and feel so much better. Lastly - quick question - how did you install the lookbook hype button? Have a great day!

    1. congrats! i am proud of you for committing to it too - we just have to manage our attitudes when everything else goes nuts. and wow, paleo! must feel insanely great.

i get it from lookbook - the "embed" button next to the image, or a step on your upload process. then i just paste it into html.

  7. Weirdly, me and my man have just started a diet / budget thing too! It's going really well so far, but you are right, it's all to do with your mindset. As we like to say 'event plus reaction equals outcome'! Best of luck, and keep your head up x

  8. Really great things here. I've actually been taking a similar approach with a couple things in my life as well. Sometimes I find a little fun activity that I can do whenever I feel overwhelmed (like tennis with a friend). It's helped a ton!

Love the blog and definitely following. I only recently started mine and would love your thoughts!

  9. Your diet and budget plans sound great - good luck and keep it up! I think it helps to publish these goals - it somehow makes it more real. I have to work out some "fall resolutions" of my own I think! I hope the out of control business is bearable and short-lived for you.

PS - Your outfit is so summery, you certainly don't look like something is out of control.

    Take care.
