Ben and I must have been on Washington time when we first arrived at the hotel in Kona. We went to bed at 8:30 at night after taking a nighttime stroll on the beach and woke up at 4:30 a.m. It was pitch black and we just sat up waiting for sunrise. At 5:53 a.m. (I know, because we counted down in the dark room), we headed down to the beach in the warm morning air to watch the sunrise and went for a morning swim. The water was warm and the entire beach empty. It was one of those surreal, romantic moments that will probably last a lifetime.
I donned Ben's tank from H&M (only about $5 at H&M on sale) and my Gap shorts and felt totally beach ready. I'd highly recommend spending some easy cash on a men's tank in a cute print to wear to the beach - it's easy and quickly dries. I haven't had too much luck with beachy cover-ups and think this is a fun and economical option if you're a little less sarong-y or crocheted dress-y at the beach.
