In the spring, the whole world smells of blooming flowers. Sometimes, walking around the city, I'll catch a wafting scent in the breeze so fragrant I swear it must be perfume, only to discover a tiny blooming shrub in a planter nearby. I hardly ever want beautiful smells to end around me, and coming home to a room full of fresh flowers (like the yellow ranunculus and white tulips I've got on my table this week) and bright candles that smell of gardenia or some equally lovely blossom usually makes my entire day feel like a pretty dream.

The only place that is devoid of flowers in my house is my shower. For some reason, I just never seem to pick pretty smelling shampoos or body washes and I'm always stuck somewhere in between generic soap bars that Ben buys and... well, I guess I'm not in-between anything. Just in the soap bar vicinity. I always emerge from the shower smelling entirely boring. And that's no way to keep the loveliness of spring alive even after I've come inside from the world.

I know you've all heard of Herbal Essences, if for no other reason than their slew of eye-widening commercials that peppered our adolescent TV screens. I've always associated them with hair-products, but when SocialStars sent me some of their body washes to try out, my nose and skin was pleasantly surprised. In fact, I still smell of the bright, lathered up soap that made my usually dull shower time exciting. To finally smell like something other than soap was kind of exciting for me.

I don't know about you all, but my favorite thing about shower-time (both at night and in the morning) is that it's a very quiet, very warm few minutes that I have all to myself. There's no noise but my bluetooth speaker playing quiet ballads by the Civil Warms. There's no bustle but the soap and water foaming on my skin. There are no outside smells but my body wash and shampoo making steamy fragrance clouds above my head. It's entirely peaceful and entirely gratuitous. Adding this foamy, happy (and so bright and cheerful) body wash into my day just prolongs the shower joy that punctuates both the beginning and end to my day.

Ah, the smell of happiness.
