Wedding Season

Dress: Target (similar splurge, similar spend, similar save); Heels: c/o Rockport

When people say "wedding season," I experience actual confusion. Does anyone really have enough weddings to attend to call it a "season?" I personally have been to one wedding since leaving home for college (I attended a few family friends' commitment ceremonies and was a flower girl when I was a baby). One. My friends have all been pretty single or in long-term, non-engaged relationships for most of my adult life.

I didn't know anyone with a ring on their finger until this year and then, like magic... we have not one, but TWO weddings approaching. What? I actually now have to figure out what the heck you're supposed to do at weddings. What you wear. What you don't wear. What you bring (water? is it hot?). Bug spray? Is that a thing at outdoor ranch-y weddings? How on earth do you figure out your shoes?

But really, the shoes, ladies, the shoes. You have to be on your feet and dancing for the majority of the time spent at the wedding. Most of them take place outside during the summer (lawns, gardens, orchards). Do you aerate the lawn with stilettos and let your baby toes bleed out inside your shoe? Do you wear a flat and let your toes get dusty and the soles of your feet black? Do you wear a toe-constricting hot flat?

And then Rockport offered me this stacked heel, ultra-comfy (it's made to wear from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at night, really) strappy black sandal to try out for my upcoming summer weddings. And I think I figured it out. It needs to be a wedge or a thick stacked heel to avoid puncturing the lawn, and the toes need to be free. That's crucial for keeping cool, trust me, it's 90 here so I know.

What do you wear on your feet for summer weddings? I'd love to hear your input on the comfiest and least comfy shoes you've sported, and if you'd try out a super comfortable heel for a long day of wedding festivities.

  1. This looks absolutely gorgeous and totally great pick for the "wedding season".

I haven't been to many weddings, but every time I do attend, I still find it bit hard to figure out the perfect outfit.

  2. Wedges are usually a good choice because they don't sink into the grass. They can look really summery too, in bright colours with a hessian or cork heel!

  3. Stunning dress, the colors on this maxi are gorgeous! And I don't think I've ever had a season per say, but being in two weddings last year (and being the maid of honor in one) and attending two other weddings got pretty crazy! I have three weddings to attend this year. But I've heard of people, some of my friends who were in sororities or are married to someone who was in a frat, literally have a wedding every weekend in the summer. Last summer one of my friends went to 14 weddings, 14! That's insane right? It might be an Iowa thing I don't know, they were all in Iowa, so maybe it made it easier to attend them all, but I couldn't do it!

  4. I definitely have a wedding season this year (6 between June and December). I pretty much always wear wedges though because they are comfy and cute.

  5. Love that this dress is from target!! I have a few weddings at the end of the summer - but fortunately I think I have a few dresses in my closet that I can wear.

  8. I wore heels to the last wedding I went to, and while it was outdoor, there wasn't any dancing - so they were perfect. I think I would always go for heels for the ceremony, and maybe bring comfy flats or sandals for the reception.

  9. Hahaha... we are currently into baby season in our time-in-life. I sort of miss the crazy frenzy of picking out new dresses and shoes for all my Summer weddings!

  10. Super cute shoes! I'm not a fan of heels, and love flats but hate the black/dusty sole thing. These would be perfect!

  11. beautiful dress, and LOVE the shoes. I always wear heels to weddings (and most of the time, since I'm so short!), and in the summer I usually wear wedges or comfy heeled sandals. I love that there are so many comfortable options now!

  12. lovely maxi-dress! I love the colors so so much. I would go for comfy but dressed flats. But maybe I would start with heels and turn them in for the flats after some time ^^

  13. I give you about two years and the 'season' will be upon you. Then when you think everyone you know has gotten married, somehow more people will join the club. So far, the most weddings we've had in one summer has been 12 .... TWELVE!! ha!

  14. Firstly, I love this dress it's absolutely gorgeous!! And when it comes to weddings? I've usually worn a simple LBD and strappy sandals, or a really comfy low kitten heel. I agree, the shoes are definitely important! Plus, yay for wedding season!!

PS Thank you for the sweet words about our beloved pumpkin. Means so much!! xo
