Learning How to Crochet

One of my New Year's un-official resolutions (made with CP at a coffee shop a weekend ago), was to learn how to knit and/or crochet. Faced with another freezing-fog weekend, and basically nothing to do that wasn't expensive or a long drive away, Ben and I headed to Joann's to procure some "learn-how-to-knit" kits. We ended up with a pamphlet and two pretty crochet needles and spent a good frustrating hour nearly crying at the impossible diagrams in the pamphlet. One Youtube video later and we were set... the unfinished and shapeless results are posted above as well as the three stitches I learned today: slip, chain, and single. I am hopeful that I will be able to brave the diagrams some more (or maybe just Youtube it) and learn something more complicated slash not a square of knitted yarn that's basically not usable except as a terrible kitschy trivet.

In other news, how do you like the new blog layout? I am still working on building an archive page, great sidebar navigation, and possible a nav bar customization for the header, but I hand-drew part of the banner, background, set up my iPad as an Air Display, and customized a post feature on the footer and designed my buttons! I hope you enjoy and if you're looking to be totally schooled in blog design, head over to the ladies at A Beautiful Mess and take their blog design course. Totally worth the $34 (and a total steal)!

  1. I taught myself to crochet this weekend too. I love it! I learnt double stitch, single stitch, slipknot and chain. There is great and easy tutorial on Youtube for creating a flower.
