How to Wear: The Printed Pencil Skirt

The printed pencil skirt is my work-style wardrobe arsenal. I have a stock of them that makes getting dressed for work a whole lot of fun. Printed pencils are not only way more interesting than a plain pencil, but can be worn with a whole host of items from plain to printed tops. Below are some styling options for the printed pencil and a reminder not to be afraid of leopard print at work!

If you're shy about wearing something out of the box at work, an animal print pencil skirt might be hard to stomach. To avoid looking like a nut at work, I always pair the craziest skirts with solid colors and conservative tops. A basic orange work blouse distracted from the print on the first skirt. For the second, the vibrant cobalt of my top also distracted from the print happening below.

If you've already stepped into the printed world, you can definitely print-mix at work as well. I always feel a bit bolder in the summer and the below look was a bit out of my initial comfort zone for work, but the warm weather suggested I wear some happy polka dots and lace anyway. I suggest pairing these items on a Friday or more casual day of the week as it might not be great for important meetings or client visits.

I'd be remiss not to mention the value of mixing anything with chambray. It just always works. A fun belt and pair of shoes can take this combination from standard to stylish. I'd wear this outfit on a weekend, or again, on a Friday to work.

My final pencil skirt combination is this crazy print mixing I recently wore on the blog. The only way I was able to get away with this many prints happening on one body was to keep my color palette totally monochrome. Black and white prints work really well together. I'd suggest trying this on your boldest and most confident day.

Some printed pencils that I cannot get enough of are below:
