Inspired Holiday Work Attire

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and People StyleWatch and InStyle magazines but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #PeopleInStyle http://cmp.ly/3/8vNxcO

When I hit a style rut, I often immediately go shopping. If I can't make a new outfit, it means I need new clothes. Right? No. And my overflowing closet is an example of that. It just means that I need to re-imagine my wardrobe, my shoes, accessories, and combinations. Math itself says that there are more than three combinations to be made from three pairs of pants and three tops. It just takes a little inspiration.

I'm a magazine junkie. I subscribe to more than I can count or read... okay, I have a problem. But they can often be the best inspiration for tackling a rut. They're full of people will full-time stylists and hairdressers and that means they're full of inspiration. I picked up the holy grail of outfit ideas - InStyle and the fashion blogger's favorite copy-cat bible, People StyleWatch at Target this weekend to get some new holiday ideas. It doesn't hurt that Target has a promotion going on where you can buy both issues and get a $5 red card. I know that $5 can go a long way at Target for the savvy shopper.

The main thing I'm struggling with this season is wearing work-appropriate looks, so I took to the pages of these holiday issues to find some help and I saw a ton of pale pink and black on celebrities, reader submissions, and in the holiday glam guide. I decided to pair a simple LBD (at a work-appropriate length) with a leopard belt and pale pink blazer for something totally appropriate for a work party. I loved the simple look inspired by Jessica Alba and the holiday separates guide in People StyleWatch.

Blazer: c/o Chicnova; Dress: c/o Divissma; Belt: H&M

The second outfit I tried was based on this really cute and simple more traditional work-wear look, for those less risky. It combines staples you probably have in your closet - a white button down or collared shirt, a pretty embellished sweater (I actually don't have one so I used a sparkly necklace to make my outfit more holiday-ready), some work slacks, and a sparkly flat.

Sweater, pants: Gap; Flats: c/o Sears

It's not easy to stand in front of the closet and re-imagine old combinations of clothing, and that's where reading tips from the pros comes in. Seeing a sparkly necklace worn in a new way on a favorite celeb can give you the needed boost to dig out the jewelry box and re-try an old necklace with a new blouse. I am a huge fan of shopping my closet and as the holidays approach will be relying on the brocade and gilded beauty of the pages of these two magazines. Be sure to pick them up at Target to get your $5 gift card before 12/7!

  2. I love remixing my clothes - this is what I'm trying to achieve right now. Because like you, I don't need to shop. I love digging into InStyle, they literally have THE BEST style boards and round ups to inspire you.

That first look is gorgeous, I love the colored blazer with the flowy dress.
I also love the cable knit with plaid - to die for!

  4. These are two of my favorite magazines. I like how you translated the looks from the magazine into something you can wear to work. Your work place must be happy.

  5. Oh I know.. sometimes I'll look on Pinterest to get inspired the night before.. I've known a girl who would plan her outfits a month in advance! I'm doing that but sometimes a little visual inspiration always helps! My Pinterest board Tomorrows Outfit helps me for that... Good luck and I like what you've found so far!
