More Ideas Than Time

Top: c/o Aeropostale (similar); Skirt: Asos (similar, similar); Flats: Gap (on sale!); Bracelet: Macy*s

Sometimes I get so overwhelmed with all of the things I want to, need to, must do, that when I get home, I flop down on the couch unable to start even one project. The possibilities seem endless, and overpowering. How can you focus on one project when there are so many others that beg to be embarked upon. I want to focus on my calligraphy, but also read a new book. I want to get back into poetry, or go outside and take photos of the setting sun and unfurling leaves. I want to clean the house, but I also want to DIY a floral sign for my bedroom. And I want to plan the wedding, but that calligraphy project calls.

I saw a desktop background the other day that I had to make mine. It said: "You'll have more ideas than time. And that is ok." Somehow that felt comforting to me. Like all of the rest of you are crippled by your ambition to gobble up the entire world and learn how to do everything. If I sat down with you and we wrote out a wish-list of what we'd do if we had more time than ideas, I'd be an expert at everything I tried. I'd be traveling the globe. I'd be an amazing cook and a better photographer. I'd be a better dresser. I'd be a happier human. I'd be giving, kind, healthy. I'd work out. I'd paint. I'd clean more often.

There simply isn't enough time to do all of those things that we dream about doing right now, but in a lifetime, we should have plenty of opportunities to dabble in everything. Perhaps my focus on being the best at everything I try is really setting my sights too high and I need to just dive in and try things first. I need to pick up the pen for an hour, then clean for another, and plan for the last one before bed. And tomorrow, I can restart.

What do you dream about doing? What do you not have enough time for?

  1. I totally get how you feel about having too many things that you want to do. I dream of getting into graphic design so that I can be more productive in my card making. Right now I'm making everything by hand and after having 2 wedding orders....I think I'm done. Haha. If only we didn't have to sleep. You look great as always!

  2. I can totally relate to you! I always seem to have so many ideas and wishes of what to do but I always seem to lack time to do everything I want. Luckily, I have many years in front of me to do everything I want to do, so ... :D Great post dear!

  3. I am just like you, so many ideas. It is a shame that some of them I have to let go and categorise under the impossible section. The images are very beautiful :)

  6. The crop top is simply perfect with that skirt. What a great, unfussy look! I feel the same way most too often. It's probably some form of ADD. Too many details; too many possibilities! And then there's the voice that's like "You should do the dishes before doing a fun project." So sitting on the couch seems like a good compromise, haha

  7. For me, it's wedding stuff. (I'm sure you can relate). Pinterest leaves me confused and feeling lazy. But then I realize I can't tackle every DIY I see on the web, or blogs. I can only do what I have time for. And I think that's okay!

  10. Love this look! I too agree, sometimes my brain is on overdrive thinking of everything I have to do - I just get nothing done, besides some online shopping (woops).
