Spring Trends

Meredith predicted it and I'm now just seeing it: yellow. Everywhere. Perhaps its because we Portlanders haven't seen much of the giant yellow orb that most normal people see every single day, but I think that yellow is making a giant push into Spring, edging out some of the sea of neutrals that we all fell into. Some flowers have already started to bloom here - rhododendrons speckled with pink blossoms in the misty mornings, bright pink tulips on my kitchen counter, all of my orchids in wild bloom in the house. And all of those flowers have me looking forward to breezy mornings in something bright, when all the flowers in our parks are starting to peek out of the gloom.

I've never been one to wear yellow. It doesn't ever seem like a color that I can pull off, but then again, it's so hardly an "in" color that I haven't had much opportunity to run through the shades. I'd love to take 2015 to try out this color and am guessing that I'd find out that there are some darker yellows I can wear without looking wan.

Beyond the flirty yellow that evokes daffodils, I am ready for a light leather trend this spring. There's nothing fresher than the bright colors that follow a dark winter. And I think it's a perfect time to slide the black purses into the back of the closet and bring out those creamy light leather bucket bags and sandals. Just think - they'll make you look tanner!

Finally, pearls. I know that rhinestone-y, giant bauble jewelry took over the scene about two years ago and then last year's reaction was insane minimalism with lariat gold necklaces and dainty pieces that were barely there. I propose a truce. Let's add pearls to those delicate gold chains, to the tops of our shoes, and to the necklines on pretty white blouses.

  4. I was shocked when I saw that some cherry blossom trees are already flowering a little! I probably won't be wearing yellow myself, but I love seeing it on other people as bursts of color that are super cheery

  5. Yellow is such a happy and Spring-y color! I think I only have one yellow top so I'm going to need to get some more yellow in my closet :) Some flowers have already started blooming here too.

  7. I actually pulled out my pearl studs yesterday and I totally agree that it's a nice change from the over-the-top jewelry. I love the ASOS flats with the bow detail- so pretty and chic for spring!
