The Instagrammer

"I am going to make everything around me beautiful - that will be my life."

-Elsie de Wolfe

I'm obsessed with pretty things. This should come as no surprise to most of the readers here - I collect shiny objects like a magpie. And I'm always on a quest to surround myself with beauty and then to photograph those moments and share them. As I'm not a professional photographer, my outlet for sharing all of this is through Instagram, my favorite social media and the one I find to be a wellspring of inspiration. It's capturing the pretty moments happening around me - a calm river at sunrise, a bouquet of roses on the coffee table, my cat sleeping in a patch of sun - that makes every single day (as hectic as it may be) worth it to me. But lately, every single day has felt so busy that I hardly have a second to (quite literally) stop and smell my roses. And those pretty, cherished moments have been passing me by.

I've talked before on the blog about being busy and lately life has been overflowing. I have a day job in tech recruiting that involves reading resumes and searching for tech candidates. It doesn't incorporate anything creative into my life and so, when I get home, I immediately want to work on creative projects that infuse some prettiness into my life. In addition to my day job, I have a small calligraphy business on the side, I blog about my life and style here, and for the past year, I was planning a wedding. There are not enough hours in the day to do everything and struggling to get everything done without the right tools and technology sets me back even further.

Our household was recently flipped on its edge (in a really good way) when we added the Lenovo YOGA Tablet 2 Pro to our technology lineup. A giant screen that lends itself well to reviewing presentations for work and school (PowerPoints look fabulous on the 13" screen), lightweight portability for dashing off with it in my massive purse, a size that lets me edit the minor details of photos for Instagram, and a generally gorgeous display that makes blog feeds and photo-sets even prettier and brighter than on any other display.

I've been using this tablet from wake-up to sleep every single day. My morning is usually filled with reading blogs to catch up on the latest trends (from music festival style posts to every-day work-wear), mid-day when the apartment is full of light I use it to photograph calligraphy work to share on my Instagram, and in the evenings I use the tablet to pull up calligrapher Instagram profiles to get inspired and write. If I'm not attached to the tablet, Ben is studying medicine on it by watching YouTube presentations, reviewing slide decks and flash cards, and making notes. By bedtime, Ben and I have usually posted up underneath our down comforter to project movies onto our bedroom wall. With the Lenovo YOGA. Seriously, it has a built in projector that we stream movies with. Like our own little movie theater at the end of every extremely busy day.

The projector evenings we now enjoy feel like a metaphor for my eternal pursuit of the best moments in life. We get to end our nights with a full wall covered in video of birds or whales migrating, of rolling ocean shores, or populated grassland. Though my cat would not agree that the wall-sized birds enhance his day, we've been getting a view into the gorgeous world out there every single night.

  9. I too love beautiful things around me and with the Lenovo YOGA it would be easy to capture those moments. Especially because it's so light and easy to use. I'm new on Instagram because the Lenovo I use now is 8 years old and isn't compatible with apps so I signed up with my android phone. I need to upgrade and fell in love with the new Lenovo YOGA. I tried to follow you on instagram but I'm getting an error "Page Not Found". I would love to connect so I could see some of your wonderful photo's.
