Saturdays with Bernaise

Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. It's carb-centered, is usually accompanied by a breakfast meat like bacon or a sausage link, and it can last for hours when champagne is added to the mix. I often have breakfast for dinner when I can convince Ben to make me pancakes. But there's something irritating about going out to brunch in Portland: the lines.

I'm not waiting for my bacon.

Nope, no way. Not standing outside in the cold for breakfast meats. Not squeezing into a dark bar just to get a seat at a popular restaurant. And I don't want to make reservations for breakfast. It should be spontaneous and exciting.

Here we're faced with an uphill battle of finding a restaurant with the following qualifications: 1) makes awesome brunch food that we don't cook at home and 2) has no lines. In Portland the whole "no lines" piece is pretty uncommon. But the best place we've been so far has been Clyde Common. They make a great eggs benedict (seen above) and some awesome quiche, breakfast sandwiches, and brunch cocktails. And it's never too crowded at breakfast. Check it out if you are ever in Portland (and it's next door to the Ace Hotel) - you won't be disappointed!

  1. Girl, you just put my Carnation Breakfast Essentials to shame! I can't eat until around 10:30 or 11 so breakfast is usually over by then. I do have breakfast a lot for dinner too. Pork gives me a headache but I love turkey bacon.

  2. I totally love spontaneous breakfasts too! I love going after church on Sundays - sometimes we just drive until we discover something new.

  6. Breakfast is my favorite meal too! There is no other time you can mix delicious bacon and essentially what some might call dessert (pancakes, french toast, etc) all on one plate. Amazing, just amazing. Super cute outfit too! I love spending my weekends in casual looks that are chic and comfy.

  7. Cameo Cafe - there is one somewhere in Portland is known for their excellent breakfast, so how wonderful would that be for your next brunch adventure. We only go to the one over here in Vancouver, but both have been acclaimed for it.

  8. Ugh. Have the same problem with lines here in New York. Totally agree... It's hard to find a fabulous place without the wait, but they exist! And when you find it, don't let go. ;)

Hope you had a great weekend!
